Selling.2.YES

Building Confidence for What ?

May 2017

Picture
“Inspire and build confidence amongst the sales team to push further in all sales activities, and take pride in what it means to be a revenue-driver.”

I admit I was stuck on that sentence while composing a proposal for my prospect, and while it all seems so clear now, my struggle was representative of what we all go through in our daily grind: we allow it to be way too complex.

Selling is actually not complex.  Look up at that
winning sentence at the top of the post again: I'm in love with three couplets of words:

Pushing forward.

Take pride.

Revenue driver.

Notice how efficient and beautiful those words are?
  • “Pushing forward”: the art of being persistent, staying focused, and being undeterred;
  • “Take pride.”  Mom ingrained a solid work ethic early in my life when she repeated, “…don’t care if you grow up to be a street sweeper, be the BEST street sweeper in the word”.  (Thanks Mom – don’t we all sometimes wish that was our job?  Don’t we all wish we had a Mom like that?  Happy Mom’s Day, Diane!)
  •  “Revenue driver”: understanding your sole purpose is to get clients to spend with you.  (And, honoring the noble nature of being in a job where you make it rain).
"Inspire and build confidence amongst the sales team to push further in all sales activities, and take pride in what it means to be a revenue driver."
Yes indeed, selling is simple.  (And whether we’re in sales or in management, we’re ALL in sales!)  And we all know why things get so complex….it’s our email box (don’t laugh).  I swear there are gremlins in mine who are paid by the hour to keep me distracted and unfocused on what’s real.

In my role as a “manager-developer” (exec. coach, counselor, career sherpa, etc), and as a skill trainer for sales execs, I see one common denominator amongst the high performers.  And I know you see it too.

High performers in sales and sales management are singularly focused on their mission and job.  One might say they’re guided by the following words:

Pushing forward.

Take pride.

Revenue driver.

Stay focused, people.  Keep it simple.
