Watch NetFlix, or read?  Hmmm...READ of course!

When I was a school-boy, my Dad would come home from work and catch me horizontally spread out on the couch doing some serious sofa-surfing.  My apprenticeship for a career in sales started right then as I remember explaining my time watching Hogan’s Heroes re-runs was a WWII history lesson.  He wasn’t buying it. But I continued my apprenticeship and learned the skill of perseverance: every night I stuck to that couch in an attempt to memorize Sgt. Schultz’s lines.
 
Looking back, I wonder why I was so allergic to schoolwork - and specifically, book reading – and now I’m a voracious reader.  Well, it’s obviously got everything to do with the subject matter…and making money.  Now, I’m not only excited about reading books, but I am passionate about steering clients and peers towards enlightening gems. 

In my line of work, I get asked all the time by clients about my sources of inspiration and learning.  I explain to my clients that if they want to excel, they have to put in the work…no cutting in line is gonna do the trick, especially for those of us in sales and sales management.  In that light, here are ten of my favorite books that inspire me, mostly at work, but outside of work too.
 
I’ve always laughed at the notion that summer means more time to read books.  In pre-device days, what else did we do on the beach or at the lake cabin?  Regardless, for those driving to be the best of the best, you need to make the “reading season” a full 12-months each year.  Whether you read from my list or yours, once in awhile it's okay to take time off from NetFlix and pick up a book...and please tell me if you read a good one!
