Words, thoughts and passion from Michael Hess

"I am exceptionally passionate about sales, sales management, training, and operational efficiency and have been so my entire 27 year career. Since I was young enough to think about the concept of what my career might look like, I aspired to be in sales as I’ve always thought it to be an incredibly noble, smart profession because of its general foundation rooted in business yet applicable to one’s personal life as well. After all, learning how to set goals and work a plan effectively is something that applies in both our professional and personal lives. The best sales persons play the ultimate business chess match applying an extremely broad and dexterous skill set, yet also requiring grace and humanity too. The best performers are those expert in presentation skills, qualifying, handling obstacles, negotiating, and most importantly, exhibiting traits like persistence and tenacity.
“I work for you” has always been the cornerstone of my management philosophy as I have repeated those words again and again to every person I've led during my career. Complimenting that philosophy is knowledge I’ve obtained from the numerous bosses, peers, sales reps, clients, and start-up situations along the way. The street has taught me some very keen lessons about management and running businesses: learn fast, be accountable, and constantly invest in relationships by practicing direct, honest communication. And let's not forget inspiration from one of my idols, John Wooden, who once said, "be quick, but don't hurry". I love business maxims, and am always trying to execute against them! The wisdom and expertise I share in my advisory practice is based on a career of trying to maximize my best efforts to learn everything I can about my craft and profession...and I’ve done it all. I’ve sat in corner offices and managed $100mm+ in annual revenue (The New Yorker), and I’ve sat on wobbly chairs while figuring out how to make payroll each week (WebRep). I’ve cherished all of those experiences as part of my journey to be the best I can be. Now I endeavor to share my knowledge and experience with you.” |
